Automating it is preferable. Everything goes to the right place (or is disallowed entirely) at donation time rather than leaving a mess for Theoris to sort out when he gets round to it.

As an alternative, perhaps we allow a user to add any object but it's not displayed until a "curator" approves it.  For now, we could assign this task to the vol/gm/dm team but later actually assign this to a responsible member (or members) of the community.  So, if I want to spend 30 minutes dumping all my books to the museum object queue, that's as far as it will ever get -- we'll just clear those items off the queue and they disappear forever.

Within the admin console should be the ability to map the object to a display allowing for a "Donation items" room/"Ring" room/"Raid" item room/etc...

The other thing to note that since the museum is new, everyone wants to try and add something to the museum.  At some point, the novelty of adding items will diminish and we'll be left with a more stagnant set of items in their display cases.

I agree Vinhi, item input will slow down

I just visited the museum today seems like you did a excellent job on it I saw items I've never heard of my self as well. Smiley Anyway I've tried to put in some items not crap but they are non-story items like my Dog hair bracers +2 of medium power (pow+4 lvl 25 ma req) is their a way to get my name put on the sign for the item ?

Yes - a DM/GM/VOL has the option to change story or player name for any item in the museum.

seems nice but I'm not any of those and my precious items wont allow me to send them in because they r not story items.

And another thing if they change the story of a item will the item only let them submit it to the museum or once they have changed the story of the item will i be able  to submit it as my own item ?

Ask the Vol/GM to submit the item for you. Then the Vol/GM will change the name submitted by and add/change the story for the exhibit.

IIRC I was online and idle a few days ago and I saw you on at the time. It doesn't hurt to ask Smiley.

Cheers,

We had to have some way of stopping people adding every item of rubbish they ever picked up (edit: not suggesting your items are rubbish - I just didn't want torches and plain items of armour, weapons, etc. in the museum) - and restricting to story items only was the simplest way of doing this.  You will need to find a dm/gm or vol online and persuade them to add items for you.

Once the item is added to the museum, they can then change the player name on the sign and the story as well - this change is only for the item in the museum - your original item is unaffected.

I got a opinion Cheesy, I think all named rings (including of non-stories) can be displayed in the museum to cause I wanted to display my egoed RoST (Ring of Strife) but it would not let me to Sad.

EDIT: Ah ok Cheesy

Hmmm ... I guess that objects have an 'is_named' flag or something ... so maybe I could expand the entry criteria to accept story items OR named items.

I would need some advice from the experienced DEV team members to see if this would throw up any problems ...

I finally got round to visiting this great map set. One problem I had though: when I offered something, the curator said he already had one and to go and visit exhibit #n.

I had big problems finding it - the exhibits don't seem to be arranged in any logical numerical order. Is there any way round this? (Like sorting the item positions into numerical order?)

PS: Going by the name, I offer myself as an exhibit Smiley

Well no, not really.  As it happens, the items are in a perfectly logical order ... exhibits 1 to x are located in the first map the museum loaded when it was visited for the very first time, and within that map 1 is in the north-west corner, 2 is south of that (i.e. along the rows, then down the columns), etc.

Of course, depending on where the mapmaker (i.e. me) drew walls on each map, will make it seem that similarly numbered exhibits are actually in different rooms.

The best that can be done is to restrict certain maps to certain object types, which has been discussed previously.  One day I'll get around to finishing this code off (i.e. implementing all the suggestions made so far!) and maybe things will be easier to find - but for now you'll just have to wander round aimlessly looking at all the different exhibits (so kind of like a real museum then!!! Cheesy)

lol well i figured out a way to add in sackable items  Smiley but its not too bright but its a good try edit the qua/con and change the weight  Wink that will prevent stacking but not a fancy way of doing it plus it would alter the stats on the items but that's the best i could think of in keeping stackable items apart but just a crazy thought of mines. laugh
