Hey newbies, and those who don't know how to cast spells (or have gotten lured to the topic by the question Tongue)!

Well, there are three ways to use spells.

1) Bind the spell to a key
-First, hit F11. Hold shift and hit the down key until you get to the Misc
tab. Now, scroll to an empty slot with the arrow keys (without shift
held). Hit enter or return, and simply type in what you would for the
console: "/cast <spellname>". Hit enter, then hit the key you want it
bound to and finally, hit "D". Now you are done and whenever you hit
that key, you cast the spell in the direction you are facing.

2) Assign the spells to a quickslot (F1-F8)
-This gets a bit complex. First, bind the spell to a quickslot by hitting F9,
locating and highlight the spell using the arrow keys and shift, and
simply hit a F-key. Now hit escape to close the spell list. Next, just hit
that F-key and hold control and hit a direction key (generally on the
numberpad). Note that you shouldn't hit tab between the two steps in
the last sentence, otherwise you've got to hit the F-key again.

3) Type the command into the command line.
-This one is easy, just type in /cast <spellname>. Example: "/cast
    cause light wounds".

Finally, note that minor healing is a slightly special case (relative to the other three spells/prayers currently available). This can be used on yourself or other players/friendly NPCs. To heal others, target them, get near (within three tiles I think), and cast away. To heal yourself, make sure no other friend is targeted.

Thanks to smacky and others for giving me the structure to use, shown in this thread.

Cheers,

Maybe i can say something more simple.

To cast a spell takes a quest (A Guild Mage is in Left basement stairs, Mercnary Guild Hall, starter town.)

Press key   F9   to open your spell list. Then click on (it's on prayer magic, click on Mage Magic) Goto "Spirit" spells, Probe. Or click on Chaos, Magic Bullet.

Double Click on the spells name in the list.  It is now loaded in your TAB keys Box.

Fire/cast Spells is like throw or ranged attacks.  Hold Down key    CTRL (and mouse click, or use number pad keys in any of the 8 directions).

Macro F11 Commands:   /ready_spell Magic Bullet
(hit enter and choose a key. Some use the f1-f8 keys some use   ], p, [, i, -, =, ect.)
/ready_spell  (spell name)  will Load the spell (but not fire it) into your TAB's keys box.
/cast (spell name)            will fire a spell of said name, just leave out the ( and ) in it.

Have fun,
