The Citystructure of Mahewa

At the moment I'm involved in planing a structure for the city of Mahewa.
To make this city a bit more credibly I post my thoughts here, so everybody
can make suggestions about it.  :lol:

As a piece of background information :  Smiley

Government
The harbour city of Mahewa is ruled by a Gouvernor and his family.
He has three ministers for diffrent tasks related to the city.
A Minister of Trade, Minister of Finance and a Minister of Defence.
On daytime the players will find them in the gouvernors palace.
The Gouvernor in the Audience room and his Ministers in their offices.
On nighttime you will find them in their houses.
(I need good names for all of them)

Military forces
There are two military forces and one semi-military force in the citylimits of Mahewa.

The Gouvermental Guards
These Guards secure the Gouvernors palace and the sourrounding palace walls.
They are stationed in the Gouvernors Guards Barracks and are able to use
horses which are situated in stables inside these barracks.

The City Guards
The duty of these guards is to secure the city-limits of Mahewa. The players will typically
find them at the Citygates but as well along the city-walls and inside the watchtowers.
They man as well the northern and southern Harbour gate towers.

The City watch
The City watch works in two shifts. There is a night watch, which normally patrols on nighttime
in several districts of Mahewa. (The players won't find them in the Mahewa Barrens(the poor district of Mahewa)
and inside the Harbour district) They secure as well the harbour gates which seperates the harbour from
the rest of the city.
The day watch patrols trough all the Mahewa districts except the Mahewa Barrens.

At this point I think it might be helpful to give you some Information about the several districts of Mahewa
and which buildings I plan to implement inside the several areas.

1 - Gouvernors Palace
2 - Gouvernors Guards Barracks
3 - Harbour District
4 - Temple District
5 - Mahewa Barrens
6 - Guild / Trade District
7 - Mahewa Downtown
8 - Farming District
9 - Wizards District

There are several main buildings inside these Districts plus some special sites

1 - Gouvernors Palace
    * Audience room
    * Gouvernors garden
    * Office of the Minister of Trade
    * Office of the Minister of Finance
    * Office of the Minister of Defence
    * residence rooms of the gouvernor

    * accommodation of the Guards
    * Mensa and Kitchen
    * Horse stables

3 - Harbour District
    * Harbour Administrator's Office
    * Ticket counter
    * Northern harbour gate tower
    * Southern harbour gate tower
    * 1-2 Taverns

4 - Temple District
    * Temple of the Tabernacle
    * Abbey
      - accomodation for the monks
      - Mensa and Kitchen
      - Abbey garden
      - Healer

5 - Mahewa Barrens
    * some ruins with a special task

6 - Guild / Trade District
    * Home of the Minister of Trade
    * Guild Houses
      - Mercenary Guild
      - Seaman Guild
      - ...
    * Shops
      - Weapon shops
      - Armour and Clothing Shop
      - Pet Shop
      - Supply Shops
    * Stock Market

7 - Mahewa Downtown
    * Home of the Minister of Finance
    * Bathing House
    * 4-5 Taverns
    * 3-4 Pubs
    * Supply Shop
    * Food Shop

8 - Farming District
    * Home of the Minister of Defence
    * Barracks of the Mahewa City Guards
      - accommodation
      - Mensa and Kitchen
    * 2-3 Farmes Home
    * Pet Shop / Pet Healer

9 - Wizards District
    * Wizards Tower
    * Wizards Guild
    * Teleporting Stone
    * Shop for wizardry goods

So what do you think about this city structure ?  Did I forget something important ? What else is needed ?  :roll:
Please make suggestions before I create the several buildings.  Cool

Btw .: Beside these several districts there will be a large sewer system below the city.   :lol:
This will be the starting point for many quests I plan !

OK ... enough for today ...  Smiley

Hi @ all

This weekend I built all the bridges and gates of Mahewa. I also finished the
streets and some of the watchtowers for the harbour gates.
But then I had a small problem.
I was looking for names for the streets and the places in the city-limits of Mahewa.

Please help me with some good names.  :roll:

(They should fit to the districts where they are located.)

Maybe I can name some streets after some personalities ...   Smiley , for example :
Michtoen-Place, Smacky-Alley, Longir-Bridge or Unislash-Road  Cheesy

What do you think about that ?

Btw.: No comments for my former post ? ...  :cry:

I've got a comment for your code:

I've DISABLED adding the date to map with it in my version, because my server crashed when there was that type of date. No server error, though.

Heya Sammy Smiley

Sorry, i was gone over the weekend.

I have no real suggestions at all. Everything looks great, and i look forward to seeing some of it Smiley. As far as road names... gosh, i dunno. Maybe use the sort of thing the different places in the city are ruled by (fish for harbor, trees for residence, gods for temple district).

I'm not much help, but oh well. Can't wait to see it.

Cheers,

Hi @ all

@Cleopatra
Feel free to alter the code for your needs (see the GNU public license  Smiley ).
I had never such problems with that  :wink:

@spyke
Thx for the link ... I've found some real good name-generators Cheesy

@Unislash
Ok ... but I think I stick to the idea to name some places after the Dev`s nickname ... do you want to be the host for a bridge or a street ? ...  :wink:  (just kiddin)  :lol:

This afternoon I had a little break, so I began to sketch some views from Mahewa ... so here comes one of them :

    the Mahewa Harbour Towers
    (from the seaside)

Sammy - hehe, okay. I'm atm developing a big mapset of 200+ maps, and that MWC thingy helped a lot. Although, now I have to change mapinfo of all 200 maps. :lol:

Anyways, I think I'll make it more usefull (at least for me), and include music creating as well, and redo the type of date created.

Btw, nice code.

Hi @ all

Some news about the Mahewa project.  Cheesy
All the streets, rivers, bridges and gates are done. So I can start with the main buildings in Mahewa.

Atm I'm working on the gouvernor's palace. While doing this I started to think about some heraldry, because I plan to make some new arches
for this building like flags, banners and some new clothings and armoury for the gouvermental guards. So I started to draw some emblems.

Now the questions to the community : Wich one do you prefer ? Do you have some other ideas ?

Emblem No.: 1 Emblem No.: 2

Comments are welcome  Cool

This is probably going to ruin it all, but I prefer the ribbons/helm of no.2, with the shield emblem of no.1 - is more relevant to Mahewa, as it is a port town. Both the keys and/or the dragon look good IMO.

I like number 4 the best.
As for colours, they look good as they are, but rather then block pasting, maybe a little shade and depth?
I'd be happy to do that if you send me them over Smiley

EDIT~ blonde moment, i'll copy and paste them Tongue with your permission of course Cheesy

Yep, no. 4 for me too Smiley

@theo, you don't often find shading on heraldric devices

as for colours, not too sure if you're following RL 'rules' in doing this, but if you are I believe you're restricted to having either a white or 'gold' colour, and then a 'normal' colour (eg the blue or red)

This might help:
black - Constancy, sometimes grief.
blue - Loyalty and truth.
red - Military fortitude and magnanimity.
green - Hope, joy and sometimes loyalty in love.
purple - Royal majesty, sovereignty and justice.

but then again, on a purely aesthetic level, I would like to see a blue/yellow version before I decide a colour scheme, if it's not too much work, of course...

Hi @ all

@theoris
Please wait with this! These are only speedy sketches with low resolution!  :wink: When I'm done with the real size, and the graphical finish of them I can send them to you so you can colour it with shades.

You are right Talwoasc! Normaly there are only shadings on the ribbons the helmet and maybe on the wyvern-head but not on the main sign!  :lol:

@Theoris
Please, keep this in mind when you work on the final design.  Tongue

But I'll wait for some more comments, before I start to brush up the final version. (Is this OK for you Theoris?)

Btw: Its not too much work for me Tal  :lol: (Sidenote : I've read something about RL heraldry but I think in Daimonin we don't need to stick on these RL-Rules too much  Cool )

Here you go :
Emblem No.: 5
