I just started; I'm actually trying to create a storyline. It's going to have three different stages, I'm already coding new items and I'm creating the graphics. This is my first stage; each dungeon will have 2-3 Different levels.
-------------------------------Dungeon's And Levels------------------------------
Dungeon 1 Starting Location

Dungeon 1, Level 1

Dungeon 1, Level 2

Dungeon 1, Treasure Room

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dungeon 2 Starting Location

Dungeon 2, Level 1

Dungeon 2, Level 2

Dungeon 2, Level 3

Dungeon 2, Treasure Room

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dungeon 3 Starting Location

Dungeon 3, Level 1

Dungeon 3, Level 2

Dungeon 3, Level 3

Dungeon 3, Treasure Room

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
New Items List
Golden Hammer of Heavan

Bronze Hammer of Charm

Black Wand of Light

Knights Sword of Healing

Ring Peace 1

Ring Peace 2

Ring Peace 3

Light Ring of All Power

Notebook
Notebook Page 1
Notebook Page 2
Notebook Page 3
Plated Armor of Crystal

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Story-Line
Women: Could you help me dear boy, I seem to have lost my ring. I think I lost it while I was next to the sewer behind my house. I will give a handsome reward!
You: “Yes” or “No”
Women: Thank you very much; you’re such a kind soul.
You: I’ll be back with your ring.

Dungeon 1- Completed
You find a “notebook” with missing pages ripped out on the dead “Spotted Jelly Beast” You read the “notebook” to find out that the ring has been split into 3 different peaces because they say it has to strong of a “power” to it.

Dungeon 2- Completed
You find 2 of the 3 missing pages of the “notebook” in an open dead body. Each page explains the why peaces of the ring where hidden and what the “power” was.

Dungeon 3- Completed
You find the last page, explaining to you how to combine all three missing peaces together to form “Light Ring of All Power”. When you get to the third peace, you have the choice to destroy it or try to combine. By destroying all the peaces you get “Plated Armor of Crystal”. Gathering the equipment to combine the peaces to form the ring will end up with a cursed ring that drains your health but also Raisin’s your attack by a random number 1-20.
------------------------------- Note Book Pages----------------------------------
Note Book Pages 1-2;
Page 1; I started out as an old smith, working with my father. The first thing I ember about smiting is to curve the horse shoe and to make it as hot to bend. I think it was over 20 years ago from today. Now as I gain experience I realized that the only good use of weapons is death. As a “Death Creator” I thought as myself as a grim reapers in the human form. I wanted to be the most powerful so I started this project. I started out creating worthless peaces of junk and weaponry.

Page 2; I was walking towards the anvil there was a mysterious man in all black robes, that handed me an unopened envelope. Within this envelope was a list of materials and directions to forge this Ring. I spent over 2 years searching and finding all the material for this Ring. As I started mending and shaping I felt this great feeling of power! Everyday I mending and shaped the ring it seemed as if it was giving me life and power. As I finished the last detail on the ring the mysterious man appeared aging to claim his Ring. I asked who this strange man was but he never answered, all he did was hold out his hand and stared into my eyes, as if he could see my soul. As I handed him the ring I could feel my body dyeing. So I stopped and pulled out my Sword, as I tried to strike at him, he disappeared. Since that day I never seem him aging.

Missing Note Book Page 1; It’s been over 2 weeks since my last entry in my notebook. The more I use this ring the more power I seem to gather over time. I started to realize that I was never ageing. As I struggled on over this 2 weeks I realized this ring was to power full for me or any of my fellow friends or any of the kings solders. So to

Missing Note Book Page 2; keep this ring in the wrong hands, I split it up into 3 different peaces and placing them into 3 different dungeons placed around the world. I’m not sure but I’m thinking of taking my own life to keep the secret of the ring just to me. I always get adventures and kings assistants coming to my door and asking me for any information on this mysterious man walking around. I found out by taking to an adventure that the mysterious man was a fabled old women looking for the ring that her husband has left her.

Missing Note Book Page 3; This is my last note book entry. I have made a list of materially needed for this ring combination. I left it under the second desk in my office. I hope one day this ring will be found by a great person who will use the power for good and nor not evil. I name this ring, “Light Ring of All Power”. I knew it was cursed because I could never have enough strength to take this ring of my finger.

Why is life so empty without you being next to me? I love that way you smile and look into my eyes without a purpose. As if your staring into my soul and just giving my that feeling.

Looks good Smiley. I might suggest that you use some anti-aliasing on some of your items (now that we support it). Also, i might note that while we do somewhat appreciate cool color variants of items, completely new items are much more noteworthy Smiley.

Very good dungeons for your first go at it Smiley

Thank's! I'm working on new items with different looks. I'm also working with BlenderTM and Adobe Photoshop as I type this. I'm useing Blender mostly as a tool to try to creat different monster's or characters.

If you're using blender to create things, you should probably search up daimex and torchwood's graphics thread. Daimex is a script that does all of the angles for you, and torchwood's graphics are mostly all done in blender (with amazing results!).

Really nice work - and I like the idea with the ring fragments to create one final ring.

Small point - you should have floors under walls.

And a floor on 'empty' tiles:
Quote from: types.xml
Floors are the base ground objects, which "defines" the tile.
All settings for ground type and moving issues are done in the
    floor tile.
For floor tiles, we have 2 rules:
a.) There must be a floor tile for every map position of a map.
b.) Only ONE and exactly ONE floor tile per map position.

Use the floor 'blocked' for this. It should prevent players running or even seeing through unintentional gaps in the wall to 'out of map' areas. IIRC some slightly odd server logic prevents this working 100%, but use it anyway.

And a floor on 'empty' tiles:

We could probably argue for ever about this. Does it really make any difference, apart from making the map file bigger, and hence more work for the server?

Having said that, you could probably make your small maps just big enough to contain the extent of the map, instead of having large, empty areas. For instance, Dungeon 2, Treasure Room could be bodily shifted to the top left hand corner (starting at 0, 0) and the map size reduced to the minimum needed.

(To move a whole map area, select the area by clicking on the top left corner of the mapped area, then dragging to the opposite corner of the mapped area. Cut with Ctrl/X, single click on 0,0 and paste with Ctrl/V. Make a backup copy first, in case you screw up!)

Don't forget that if you move a map, you'll have to change any stairs etc. referencing it to the new location.

LOL Well that's the point. We need a definitive answer (= a proper map spec). ATM the closest we have is types.xml so I think we ought to make an effort to follow it.

Well I don't think either point is really significant. That said, AFAICR it doesn't make any practical difference ATM. But for example when someone makes an ethereal mob (can travel through no_pass squares) such a mob will happily travel ove 'blocked' floors, through walls, and over empty squares.

If indeed 'All settings for ground type and moving issues are done in the floor tile' then it is significant and a potential source of problems if a map has floorless empty squares.

I think it is basically a future-proofing issue.

Also, having floored all the human plane dungeons, I find it good practice from a mapmaking/editing POV; it makes you think about the map on a more or less square-by-square basis and/or look and learn what the creator did (and address problems) when you're editing someone else's map.

I just don't see a reason not to do it.

OTOH Anchakor suggested some time ago on IRC (when every day players were finding holes in walls) to simply have the server give empty squares a default set of values. Like no_pass 1 blocksview 1 terrain_type 1. So perhaps that is the ultimate answer? But as we don't have that now, lets listen to types.xml.

Ok thanks Smacky.

Also there not finished, I'm having trouble creating my own Arch's which I'm still tryng to learn. Other then that I'm going to smothing out the maps and not make the area wide and open.

For the moment there is a limit on the number of arches the test/mapmaker server can handle, to which we are already very very close. So don't be surprised if you add your own arches and your local server no longer works. Sad

If this happens, the easiest workaround is to delete some unused arches. For example, there are many xmas ones which can be safely thrown away (although a few are annoyingly used for other purposes too).

On the topic of blocked floors: Originally, i had a position along with grommit, but now that smacky has given some (very feasible) reasons i quite agree with him. Of course, Anchakor's idea is much less work for us (so i'd like that more). Perhaps we could even make a batch processor of some sort that could add these tiles to maps once we've done everything else so we don't need to manually place them.

Zachary: You should add more blending decoration. Take the surface of the ruins for instance. It goes from grass to ruin walls. The thing is a ruin! Since when is the line so clear-cut? Tongue

Add in some ruin floors instead of grass and then put a grass mask over it. Mix it up, too: don't use the same grass mask over these ruin tiles to spice it up. You may also consider adding bushes (they are a *great* filler) and maybe a little bit of dirt to the houses (in a corner or something).
