official daimonin client 0.9.7 debian (ubuntu) package
May 27, 2007 - 10:33 PM - package updated, should now work no problem
(if it worked for you no problem, then no need to download the updated package...)

download (22MB)

EDIT by Alderan:
i removed the link to the deb file, because it is outdated, just get the source package from the Download page, and build it.

This is debian package, for official daimonin client.
Should work on all debian systems (debian, any ubuntu, mint, mepis...),
on architectures i386 (and higher). Built on Debian Etch stable i386.

installation
1. Download the package from link above.
2. Install gdebi (if you have it installed already the command would tell you and do nothing)
Quote
sudo apt-get install gdebi
3. Install the package using gdebi. Usually double click from your file manager would do, if not, for console installation run:
Quote
sudo gdebi daimonin-client_0.9.7_i386.deb
for graphical installation run:
Quote
sudo gdebi-gtk daimonin-client_0.9.7_i386.deb
than just type "daimonin" in console and the client would start.

Uninstallation
Quote
sudo dpkg -r daimonin-client
Should work (but I havent tried it...)

If anything goes wrong, or could be improved, post here.

wouldn't be better for users to create deb repository (hosted on main website) which would contain client and the rest of packages? then only adding this rep would allow for simple installation and upgrades

Ive had this in my mind, but I must do research on it... Dunno if it needs some specialised server daemon running on the server etc... Ive seen that their own repository have only large projects like Wine or Beryl...

Also I dont know what is easier for users - if modify their sources list, set up the keys, or simply download the package and than install the packages which they are missing via apt-get...
The repository is a cleaner solution, but the plan is to make the package compatible with debian package policy so it could be placed in official repository, with all nonGPL files downloaded by client on first start up, so setting up a repository might be a needless step...

As I said it would need some research on debian package policy, release speed etc... so if anyone has experience with it, please advise... Smiley

use menu editor and add it  command is simply daimonin and set run in terminal and it works fine and will then be in your add/remove applications menu.

No no, I mean the front-end thingy to synaptic so all Ubuntu users get to see it, not justthe ones with it already installed who are too lazy to type.

Hmmm, prolly it will be done. Yesterday debian developer said they would add but under some circumstances:
- server will be there too
- server will contain set of playable maps, they dont must be full set of official maps but anyway playable

Now what i can say, client need some modifications which are not difficult to but server atm if im not wrong has makefiles which not allows to install it and get working in accordance with FHS so it will need some work.

About RPM i can say something simple, i know rpm and i'm able to make SPEC files on the fly but the thing is i cant install every distro on my comp.

I will open a thread soon handling the package questions.

We got invited by debian for a package, but i want first clear
some things up with more devs also from other distros,
related to the updater. Will go for it on the weekend.

Marvelous !
I was thinking of launching ideas about deb client/server repositories and it's done Smiley
Of course as i'm testing actually the server side on linux, for offline play (solo) or on a lan with some friends, a special pack (mean playable) would be fantastic !

The one in the actual mapmaker/server is really for map testing/creating and i was very disappointed by the contents .

As in an other thread you explained that for fun/discover etcc reasons you don't want to reveal the content of the actual internet server (what i understand completely), a special pack like solo/lan-network mode would be the compromise (but more work to do to maintain i guess)

In any case daimonin in deb client/server in debian repositories would be the best way to make the game discover by a lot of GNU/Linux users !

Actually from my search .. your are the only project to propose both free(GNU/linux way meaning) working client/server of a MMORPG game and that is the best point !

See you next on the net server (when i have time) as i'll try to reactivate my account Wink

I guess i would have to know a bit more about what is going on.  I run daimonin on a dual boot, both on the linux side (ubuntu/debian) and on windows side (XP 64-bit), and have had quite a bit of experience with trouble shooting the linux side of it.  One thing to note is that the HEAD SVN repositories is NOT compatible with the current server.  If you want to install the Client on linux you must use the current website download link for the source files.

So to recap, give us a bit more info, like where you are downloading from, when it fails to work, etc.

Thanks Planeskeeper. I dont know what i did but i tried again and it worked. It would be nice to have another package for .9.7.1.preferablly pure Debian. not ubuntu. What i did was download the client source from the link on the site.

I'm not using any debian/debian-based distro any more, so someone else should make the packages...
anyway just to warn you - debian packaging system sucks Smiley
