I'm with a problem playing offline.
I can't get out of the tutorial map, I mean, the gatekeeper don't speak to me. Looks like a scripting error.
The server window show this:
---
An object (The friendly gatekeeper) had a event flag but no event object (SAY)
CLOG T_TELL:Bloodyshade >hello<
---
if any1 know how to fix that, answer plz

You need to install Python 2.3.x.
I don't know why michtoen removed that part of the server installations instructions, but they can be found in the old version:

That cant be te right solution because its the same on my comp.
I wouldnt be possible to even start the server without Phyton.
I use Phyton 2.4 so that may be a broblem there.

I had the same problem for a while, using a CVS version. The problem existed for a few days during the Python->Lua migration and is fixed now. I don't know wether you're using a CVS version. But if you do, try cvs update -d.

Well, i removed the python installation doc in cvs because there is no python anymore...
Seems to me a somewhat good reason, or?
There was still a problem with lua i fixed some days ago.
The script trigger search still for plugin "python" instead
of "lua", so no script was executed. In the current cvs
all works fine and all maps/scripts are adjusted.
The current packages still have the right infos & readme.
Well, with beta 4 we will have removed this problems because
all will run out of the box.

One would believe that the online docs describe the currently released version unless otherwise documented, wouldn't one ;-)
I don't really understand that part about the script trigger search, since at least for me, all lua scripts seem to have worked since day one?

He means that either 1) it was .lua or 2) the plugin was still python (i think that this is what he means at least
). THEONE: That is your problem, it is -only- 2.3 and the next number doesn't matter (hence 2.3.X). Download 2.3 and use it, and it will work.
Hey, now that we will use lua, does that mean that we will not have to deal with this bug anymore? That'd be great :p

hmm, so i need python2.3.x? i tryed with python 2.2.x and 2.4.x ><
well, i'm downloading it right now, ty all for the help, about compilation, well, i tryed to compile the sources tarballs (server&client) on my Debian GNU/Linux and i got some compilation errors, about the same error trying to compile crossfire(of course! hehe), if someone may help me, i'm very thankful, i'm with the config.log here, send me a PM if ur interested in help ^^, once more, ty u all guys, this is the best mmorpg cause the guys who play it are nice! cyaz

No, the event object in the maps had still something like that:
arch event_obj
name lua
race gatekeeper.lua
sub_type 6
end
The "name lua" part is used to identify the plugin.
In the past, it still worked with old "name python" trigger,
but then someone changed it (or it don't worked under windows).
so, i adjusted it to all maps and also changed it from case sensitive
to non. Now all works fine again.

On debian sarge, you can get those with the following command:
apt-get install libsdl-image1.2-dev libsdl-image1.2 libsdl-mixer1.2 libsdl-mixer1.2-dev libsdl1.2debian libsdl1.2-dev gcc-3.4 make

yeah, I know debian very well hehe, it's cause I had some problems with my hard disk, some file are a little corrupted, and, ty ppl, the beta3 worked with python2.3
