No need - I use the two words myself interchangeably Wink (Just pointing out they mean the same thing)

@Tehill: I can certainly upload a precompiled .jar if this helps as I stay current with SVN. Is that all that is needed? It wouldn't be updateable from Gridarta as I don't have access to wherever it looks for that. Hm, I'll ask Ragnor later.

<smacky> Ragnor: what are the criteria for making a new .jar do DaiGridarta avilable for updates?
<Ragnor> Getting me motivated enough to overcome my lazyness Smiley
<Ragnor> (And all these issues from the previous update do not help me getting motivated since I don't want to experience these once more Wink)
<Ragnor> (One more means against an update: lately I did some refactoring that have a (slight) chance to be broken. This means Gridarta may not be 100% stable (just 99.9% ;P).)
<smacky> Ragnor: is it simply a built jar that is needed? perhaps we could put a new option (i know how you love them Smiley) to fetch a stable (the default) or 'bleeding edge' jar when the user updates? the point here is i (well, and others Smiley) am trying to move dai forward in this respect but it seems that for some reason most people can't/won't install the JSDK, just the JRE, so only quite old Gridartas are in use in Dai-land, leading to stuff lik
<smacky> e this (where people are suggesting something already partially implemented but everyone gets their knickers in a twist because the relevant features are not in the last precompiled gridarta): http://www.daimonin.com/pickmap_library-t7100.0.html
<smacky> or this: http://www.daimonin.com/filtering_objects_in_gridarta-t6942.0.html
<Ragnor> But D just is sloooow on updating (from my experience). Countering this by going overboard with bleeding edge versions IMO is not good ;P
<Ragnor> Therefore I'd rather leave it as is: "stable" editor via update function, or bleeding-edge software for people able to compile it Smiley
<smacky> Ragnor: you make a good point...

You misunderstood slightly. The suggestion that one of us who builds the bleeding edge Gridarta from SVN could commit it to the trunk was not for the autoupdate, but for those who wish to try the bleeding edge version to have a place that they could get it without having a java ide and jdk. The trunk is a place for bleeding edge stuff. I build my own so it doesn't affect me, I was just thinking of others.

But having /editor in the trunk would also be a good place for the resources to be stored, avoiding the problems we had with having to change the image names to get the editor to work.

And if you had a /editor in the branch you could build a new mapmaker package every 3months or so instead of every year or so based on current stable version of everything.

As previously stated I think the ability to select where on the hard drive pickmaps are stored would give users the ability to put them where they wouldn't be accidentally erased as happens in a local /arch. And then they could arrange their pickmaps as best suits their own needs.

building the Daimonin Editor on any platform other than Linux is a pain in the @.

Having a precompiled version in trunk that is up-to-date would be most useful IMO

Sure. In fact I wanted to first see if the Gridarta devs (meaning Ragnor Wink) had any objections to making a bleeding edge version available via update. They do.

I understand the objection. I am a little wary of including a bleeding edge jar and/or Dai resources for Gridarta in the Dai SVN as this merging of projects, making Gridarta reliant on the Dai SVN, seems to me to be a step away from the intention of Gridarta -- as a separate project.

Then again, we do already have this to some extent with arch/dev/editor/. But also, SVN isn't the place for executables, although of course there are some already. So hm...

Well, lets try it and see what happens.:

So I've been doing this for a week now. Unfortunately I can't see a way to query how many time a file has been checked out of SVN or anything so I'm reduced to asking. Is this useful?

I'd say update it like once a few weeks, not every day.  Sounds like alot of work otherwise (of course it would be alot of work for me to remember to update it every few weeks... bah...)

Obviously this is a massively popular feature. Rather than doing it via SVN I have uploaded the jar to sourceforge. Available from the downloads page.
