Contributions / Sound & music / Submit Music To Trunk SVN?
|
on: December 10, 2008, 07:10:37 am

I'm just wondering if music should be submitted to the trunk svn. ATM I only see orchestral.ogg (current intro screen music), but nothing else.
NB: I don't have music to submit right now, but this is just for future reference.

That doesn't really help when there are lots of posts you don't want as you would be deleting the replies individually. Though you can mass move a lot of deleted posts, you will still then have to merge each post individually into the new topic.
This method is only suitable for moving one reply out of a topic. But I would rather use split; split > view new topic > move. Instead of: delete > forum > recycle bin > move.
What Nite*Star is suggesting is that we have a "move reply" function. Which would override the splitting and moving of the new topic.

Statistically, you do not post a lot. 300 or so posts in almost a year is not a lot. People spam, I spam, we aren't robots. However, spamming a lot can get you into a bit of trouble. Should I stay or should I go? That is entirely up to you, no one can decide on your behalf. If I were to post a "Should I stay or should I go" topic, I could get a few "please stay", a few "please leave" and a "get lost!". But the bottom line is I would be making my own decision and people gotta deal with it. Cheers, Anich

Battle Music: this is one of the better tracks you've made so far, well done. The only thing I could think of is that this track needs to be more "loopie", i.e. when it finishes the arpegiator underlayer just cuts rather than blend in to the beginning. ATM the music would be pretty much complete as a linear track. Chill Out: this one is chill. I like it-- I could smell a hint of phasor on that 12-string guitar and you picked the right one . A question: are you using live instruments? (A recording of yourself playing perhaps), because that's some real piece of work on that violin. Cheers, Anich

Hrm, horrible download speeds from your web site, TPK. Keepers and I discussed about that. It doesn't really matter, as long as its free and I get a whole bunch of gigabytes without any adds . But it is strange that your FF crashes-- make sure you have the latest version, my FF doesn't crash. I also need a better sound system. My laptop speakers just don't cut it. Ah, there's your "twang". I would recommend getting headphones no less than $19. But if you're looking for quality, go for Klipsche audio. Back on topic: Gamelan Insanity: Did some extra thinking. This track can actually be very effective if used in the right map or as a theme for an NPC (e.g. an old chemist that lives in a hut). IMO it is perfect the way it is. Cheers, Anich

I know what this is about. Actually what I did was split the irrelevant posts, then move the topic to suggestions, and then merge with the existing (other half). (The new topic can be found here http://www.daimonin.com/targetting_npcs-t7645.0.html) This was only three steps, the interface for forum moderation on this forum is actually... dead simple . (Note to Zrub when you read this: during the process of splitting topics, the order of posts are in reverse, i.e. the topic post will show up at the bottom of the last page, the last post will show up on top of the first page.) Cheers, Anich

I see, we're no different then, I mainly play by ear . I've made a version of your music, I'll see about recording it and sending it over to you (so you can give it some of that magic touch and call it your own ). Cheers, Anicih Edit: TBH I've never actually used recording software before so I had no clue what I was doing (recording was easy, but editing was too tricky) so instead I just did the basic layer on FL. This actually worked out better even though its pretty blank with just one instrument. One of these days I'll learn how to edit/master things I record. Anyway, link: http://screamingflower.dontexist.org/daimonin/anich/music/SadLonely.oggThere are only 7 different chords in this layer. (Sample provided) I'm not giving a music lesson, just trying to explain myself using simple tabs. This music only uses whole rhythms, so one chord per rhythm. The sequence goes: First verse: F F F C/F A# A# C C F F A# C F C F F A# C Dm Dm A# A7 Chorus: Dm Dm A# A# Dm Dm A# A# Dm Dm A# A# C C C C Second verse: F F F C/F A# A# F F F F Dm C A#9 A#9 Dm C A#9 A#9 F C A# A7 Chorus: (loop) (Forget that stuff I said earlier in my previous post-- my ear was out of tune ) Whelp, that's all. Use some of that magic! (BTW, no matter how hard I try, my guitar can't match to your music) Cheers, Anich TPK- Edited for http vs. ftp (no password required now)

First-- you never seize to surprise me, Cole, you're a genius! Lonely Planet: The instruments used would suit an outdoor woods environment, plenty of flowers, birds, butterflies, etc.The melody itself does not seem sad/lonely, perhaps a bit melancholy. I can't put into words, but the song seems, unfinished, in a way... (don't hit me!) Just a thought; after the three beats with G, replace the G6 with D/G, then follow it by two beats with C and back to G for four beats, then a C for one beat followed by a D for one beat and then a Em for 2 beats, rise to C for one beat, then B7 for one beat, then back to Em for two beats. At this point, you can loop the chorus from two beats of C to two beats of Em, which, in my opinion sounds rather sad. Finish it off with C, followed by as many beats as you want with D, then loop from the beginning. Well, that's just an idea I got from listening to this music. Irish Tune Town: Instruments used very suitable for "in town" folk like music. Yep, can't think of anything else for this one either . Cheers, Anich Edit: I was rushing when I was posting this, so my apologies if what I'm saying is a bit absurd... maybe I write my idea in sheet music?

Congratulations to our new admins! (I know this thread has been locked (by me in fact), where this post is also off topic (Note: do not follow my example ) Edit: While I'm still off topic: Should I just do nothing in future and let the forum collapse because someone has decided to dedicate themselves to spamming? Yes, you really should be doing nothing (at least most of the time), the forum will not collapse, not on my watch. You are an admin, taking care of the coding stuff, while the mods take out the trash. That's how it should be. Cheers, Anich

I had no place in this conversation, as this topic does not concern any game related subject and I would rather stay out of it. So what am I doing here you ask? Let me know, zrub/anich/smacky/TPK/Longir/whoever else shares these views of me. The truth is, I don't care about what you think. Your actions define you, not your personality. I can't judge people, but I can judge what they do. And by what you just did here, is unworthy. I would rather speak for myself than have someone else drag me into something that I am not a part of. It is easier said than done. A server side language filter should be implemented, but not anytime soon.
