Hi,

Is the protocol for Daimonin specifically documented anywhere? If not, what source files handle the protocol commands specifically?

Thanks.

1. No, its not documented
2. The protocol handling is spread out quite well all over the client and server source, so its hard to point at a specific file(s), but some are more important than others:
http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/daimonin/daimonin/client/src/commands.c?rev=1.16&view=auto
http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/daimonin/daimonin/server/src/socket/request.c?rev=1.37&view=auto

Note: the protocol can and will change in the future.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I very much like the look of Daimonin, it brings my common interests together (isometric games, online games, and the ability to make and script maps for online games) closely together. I look forward to it's further development Wink

BTW, when the 3D version is done, will the isometric version still be an option? Will it no longer be maintained, or will it be something like it's up to the server maintainer whether they want to do artwork for the isometric or 3D version or not?

Just curious: Why are you interested in the protocol?

Call me strange, but I have a big interest in TCP/UDP/IP protocols. It's just a thing of mine, I find it interesting to see how the underlying protocol works. Smiley

I might as well put some background info about me here; I've mostly come here from Furcadia, a free-to-play, closed-source, isometric company-run game that allows you to upload and script your own maps (using a primitive scripting language, which can be infuriatingly underpowered at times). I find the similar but more open approach of Daimonin a breath of fresh air, what with all the power of Python/Lua and all. Smiley

The 3D version will use a locked isometric perspective, and will be able to use all the current artwork (though we will try to phase out the low-res tiles for 3d objects over time).

BTW, if you find out how the protocol works, feel free to add a little writeup in the wiki. Currently there is only one developer with any clue about the protocol, and he hasn't any time to document it =)

Well, i don't think it will use the current (2d) artwork...

Not for the most map items.

So, even though it will be technically 3D, it will still look moreorless like the traditional current isometric (but of course, more internally flexible)?

Remember that this is nothing new.

Ultima Online was 2d and then they changed to 3d -and they REALLY used
most of the 2d graphics still in the 3d client.

Well, it's not just the isometric view that makes me like it. I've never seen Ultima Online, however scripting is something I very much like in MMO*Gs, as is user mapmaking. I find RPGs where you can be constructive by adding to the world much more fun Smiley, I have no idea if Ultima Online allowed this or not.

I like the level of scripting in Second Life, although that is less a game than a socializing area.

I actually come from a game called Furcadia (which classifies itself as an MMOSocialG. I play it mainly because while the server is propiatery, it provides mapmaking and (highly simplified but powerful enough) scripting, and of course the ability to use your own custom artwork.
