You could make that, but the fish jumping over a bridge wouldn't work Smiley. It would, of course, all be an illusion. You would have to set the animation speed to match the movement speed (i'm thinking it would move rather slow) and make the idle stance either a blank image or maybe one of a dark, submerged object (to make the illusion that it is underwater), then the walking animation would have to be it jumping out of the water.

I dunno, i might mess around with it if i get the time (which i have none of when i have access to the daimonin mapeditor).

Now, what about those trinkets? I've got to have something to do during class tomorrow Tongue

Well, you can start with a fish that swims over land and then move onto moving jupiter slightly to the left, it disturbs my view... Wink

Let me load up some maps and see if there is much I am in need of Smiley

While I'm looking, are we talking about animating old .arcs or drawing new .arcs or drawing from scratch new .anims?

you should really wait until sammy is done with the current projects, it can be stressful knowing everyone wants something and you just dont have the time/muse nessasary to make it

personally i have been fidgiting (if thats even spelled right) with grass, the grass is verry VERY UGLY!! (sorry mt!) im at least trying to spruce it up with more color and variations hopefully

agreed scooby, but this is an area for printing what you would like to see, an area for the people that have the capabilities to pick up their next jobs and ideas from. I really hope that Sammy isn't reading this and thinking that we are all impatient, because that is not the case Sad

(still working on it Uni, got a couple for ya so far)

Definately needing the sunken water for the middle color tone... oh so badly it hurts (the effect I'm aiming for is actually logically correct the way round the current .arcs will allow you to draw it, but as is often the case, the goddamn reality don't want to be logical)

Then I could do with some water edging: I'm thinking that if water spills up over an embankment onto, say a path, it would be crossable but also look pretty cool.

Oh yeah, and ANYTHING with curves Wink all this 90 degree stuff is killing my soul

Ahh yes, come to think about it, hows about walls that sit in the middle of the tile? failing that turnable walls so that they can sit to opposite sides of the tiles: if you're trying to put somthing into the middle of three tiles (lets take a fireplace on a chimney breast as an example) then you can't get it to look like its sitting in the middle, coz it simply isn't sitting in the middle lol.

As for trinkets, hows:
a double bed
A disco ball (ohhh but lets make the glow radius changeable...)
A new type of indoor bar for the tavern(maybe a couple of types)
Some sort of olde worlde toilet facilities

Well thats all I can think of for now

Cheers, Trepie

P.s. And PLEASE, lets make the idle stance a blank image on the fish... we don't need to know its there till it jumps again... maybe we could randomise where it jumps from, that would be preety tasty stuff for an effect.

Heh, trepie: Trinkets as in small items that wouldn't be worn and could be utterly useless, or possibly used for a quest item. IE: teddy bear, ball, cool-looking ornaments (that can be drawn Tongue)

Toilets are a good idea... put that on the list for sammy/mysteria/sherock to make (or subaru, or nao).

I still don't know what you mean by sunken water Tongue. Again, we have 3 kinds of water if that is what you were wanting. Overflowed water is an interesting idea... very interesting.

On the whole fireplace issue, i might be able to work something out map-wise if you send me over the map (and sammy sends me the image or something).

@ Sammy: Could i get a uh...
--*Winter-themed statue (the 4 square size)?
--*Broken/ruined statue (the 4 square size)?

@ Subaru/Sammy: Could i get a uh...
--Full fmask (floor mask) set designed for the tileset that includes floor_earth1d.101?

* means within... 2 weeks, please

Quote from: "trepie"
@Smacky: I mean a simple single tile for the (3/4?) jumping fish and a single fish that could act like a water dragon, only when it moves from tile to tile it appears to jump out of the water and then resubmerge... and think about the possibilities if you could make that fish capable of jumping two tiles (over a bridge for instance) and fully turnable so it can jump in all 8 directions... But maybe I'm getting ahead of where we are and heading towards 3d realms Huh?:

I haven't thought long about this, but I think the big fish mob that 'jumps' from tile to adjacent tile, while a pleasing effect could be achieved graphically would be impossible from a gameplay point of view. If only because he would still be 'there' (targettable and attackable) while submerged. Complex scripting and coroutines might fix this (if anyone's able, do it Wink) but then you have to think are the overheads of coroutines acceptable for this effect?

Quote
Also I think that the jumping fish shouldn't be constantly jumping or that they should be able to be 'set' to jump at <however> regular you wanted them to... Constantly jumping fish would just make me want to get a rod (of the fishing veriety =P) and some beers and chill out on the bank for the afternoon..

Again, you might get some joy either via scripting or via speed/anim_speed and 'empty' anim frames (though you'r limited to 9, 10 at a push, frames). But this sounds an awful lot like what I was trying (unsuccessfully) to achieve a while ago with marching cockroaches.

Or maybe someone will prove me wrong?

Coroutines are basically scripts (well, blocks within scripts) that sit in the background and run every so often, rather than running immdeiately like normal scripts.

http://www.daimonin.net/index.php?op=modload&name=phpWiki&file=index&pagename=Scripting

http://www.lua.org/manual/5.0/manual.html#2.10 (although in fact a Daimonin scripter doesn't need half of that -- the server manages it for you).

OK smacky, I quickly scanned that first link and I don't mind reading further into it, but I would ask if it is written for an audience that already knows about scripting and just nees to hone their skills for Daimonin or if it is aimed at peeps who have had little or no experience in scripting?

If it starts at above my lvl (which is almost @ground) then I probably wouldnt get much more than a headache from it..

I didn't write it. Smiley

YMMV of course. It links to two general Lua manuals, the Lua Ref Manual, and a big fat Programming in Lua book (actually I have no idea about this one as I've never looked at it). Both are available for free in online versions or you can buy paper versions (actually only Lua Ref 5.1 is available in paper, Daimonin uses 5.0).

I learnt Lua from the first 27 pages of Lua Ref 5.1 (print version) and refer to the library functions (back of the book as needed). It really is that easy.

But I also asked 1001 noob questions in the Lua & Scripting forum here and referred to the wiki as I became less nooby.

No, this isn't me saying look how clever I am. I'm saying it's not as difficult as you might anticipate and there's lots of forum support when you need it.

Smacky, It usually takes me ages to understand what your abbreiviations mean, but you seem to have adopted a new one... YMMV? I just can't fathom it

And fair enough, this is the perfect place to get into it then Smiley

I'll read on...

LOL AFAIK YMMV = Your Mileage May Vary (you may view things differently).
