I've tried to read through the faq's and such, but i havent found the right answers.

So heres my story.  I downloaded the client from this site, and played it.  I enter in my name and then password, then it says new player and asks for the password again.  I go through the whole beginning tutorial, and get to the outside world. From there i do the first quest and level up to lv 2. I decided to call it a day and logged out.  I came back later today and typed in my name and password, and it asks for the password again because it thinks I am a new player, and all my data doesent load it just makes me create a new character.
Was there a button I am suposed to press in order to save?  I was under the impression (from one of those signs in the tutorial I belive) that once you log out the game autmatically saves what you have done.

I am a little frusturated, any help is appreciated.

If you hit 'esc' and selected Logout, then yes...it should have saved you as long as you killed something, (which of course you did if you leveled to 2....)

You can also force a save by typing /save as long as you have killed something and gained some experience.

The only thing I can think of, is maybe you exited the game abnormally by clicking on the 'x' button, (only possible if you were in windowed mode.)  Otherwise, its possible that the server may have dumped you and your character was lost before you were saved.

I hope something here has been helpful.  Try logging in again and this time type /save and this should ensure that your character is saved.

I would suggest trying all variations of your screen name, its easy to confuse a hyphen with an underscore for instance.. This is a common problem and ill bet you a pound to a penny thats what the problem is Cheesy (i dont want to sound derogatory here as you obviously arent stupid, you had the wherewithall to READ the tutorial afterall Smiley)

Cheers, Trepie Cheesy

I think the answer is that you have to explicitly /save your char once (as well as get some exp). I'm not sure and have been too lazy to check (I should) which is why Smacky's Guides doesn't mention it (this is why I should check). Uni?

There is no need to /save at all, apartments are auto saved constantly and your char is saved as you log out, after getting exp this should happen automatically when you log out using the esc>logout route (never used windowed mode so i cant say what would happed after using the <x> Huh?:

The deal is that when the connection is closed from the client, your information is always saved. The only way it isn't saved is if the server closes connection. I've found that it is like 10X faster to log out and then close the client, so i am not 100% sure about closing the client in windowed mode with X. You do not have to type /save, ever, if you don't want to. The reason we have this is if you just found a really awesome thing, or solved a quest, and you want to make absolutely sure that you do not loose it to an unlikely server crash.

Apartment saves are different than player saves, as they are saved in different files from the playerfile. When it saves, i dunno. I expect longir would, and i am surprised he hasn't found this thread already Tongue.

Cheers,
Unislash

PS: make sure to always always always kill a mob first. This is in the documentation around 2 times, i think.

ok....here's the answer.  In order to save your character for re-use, after you make at least 1 kill, you must /save.  If you do not do that first save, anything you do is wasted.  After that, the server auto-saves about every 10 mins and on logout and server reboot.  It does not save on a crash as uni mentioned.  It is a good idea to periodically /save as well, especially when you find a good item.  Sorry I didn't get here to answer earlier, had other things going on  :/

Thanks for the replys, ill try /save the next time i play.  Forgive me if I am wrong, i think there should be a sign in the tutorial saying make sure you /save or else all your data will be lost upon logging out.  From the tutorial, i had thought logging out saved your data, but from the post above it only saves it once you have done /save.

EDIT: to not double post

Crap, i just went through the tutorial again and killed some ants to get the expirience needed to save. I typed in /save, and it says SAVE FAILED then it says could not open file for save, or something along those terms. Ugh.. any ideas now?

Apparently the save file is full, we are waiting around for michtoen to see what's up. Please wait around, it should be fixed soon.

I have the same problem and I am happy to see this thread because I was very close to leave this game forever Smiley
I thought it is rather a buggy game installation.
