Think about it. This is a small mmorpg, with some decent gameplay. It has some cute gfx, nothing overwhelming, but it is charming and fun to play every once in a while and a nice community on top of it. That original feeling would radically change when you go 3d. And you know that there is alot of this 3d-stuff out there that you cant really compete with. You would be just another crappy 3d mmorpg in the big sea. i know 3d games and i can say by my own experience that 3d does not necessarily improve gameplay, sometimes it even takes away from it.

I would suggest you stay 2d, but with the idea to implement omnidirections at some point in the future and i believe that this is difficult enough, since it is probably a core issue that would require to reprogram the gfx engine.

No, we'll go 3d. 2d will continue to be supported. Both will (I think) work on the same server at the same time.

Fuji: yeye, i was testing last time some 3D games and awwww. Its more difficult to navigate, simple killing appears to be PITA etc. Personally for me the best is fallout like look which isometric what is also in dai but from different perspective.

Yeah, I agree... for me the best perspective was probably Diablo 2.

You do know that 3d will be/is the same perspective as 2d?

Yeah, the perspective is not the issue I have with 3D, actually I think that is where 3D has advantage over 2D because you can use whatever perspective you want.

I just like rendered 2D graphic style more than 3D... to create nice 3D graphics is also very very hard...

This is what I like:

But this I don't (even it's from a 5 years newer game):

with our content, world size  and amount of archs, if we aim for diablo2 look (which is awesome btw), we will end up with 9.5GB client file size. if we go for second link you gave, where there are only textures used, this game will definitely not stand out among others. and will loose most of its charm.
but.. plenty could be said against and pro, but desicion is made, so.. lets just move on Smiley

why stick to 2d or 3d when you can have both?

We are not bound to one of it, thats the trick.
We will have both.

@MT: why not have both... b/c my experience tells me, that if you try to achieve too much on one project - especially given its small proportion - you will ulitmately end up with wasted efforts. Now that wont shock the world as the current economic crisis Cheesy, but still sucked for you who put your time into it.

You have to be realistic. If you look at the avg. number of players you got on the server right now, lets say around 10 peeps or so - which btw is alot worse than when i used to play with this char 2 years back - do you really see a reason for growing this game far beyond its current demand? This is like the bubbles they created in the financial market until the whole thing collapsed.

Improvements might attract more ppl. Sure, if these improvements were original ones. But on a market that throws out a new 3d game every month that looks 10 times better now than everything that Daimonin could look like in 10 years of intensive development by the 3 or 4 peeps, who dedicate their time on this 3d-effort, it does not seem likely to me that this effort will ever pay off in the way you expect it.
