i got the map editor and made a map, but when i tried to test it the w32_start_server thing just popped up and closed very quickly(0.5 seconds) people told me it should stay up then and if i got it to stay up i was supposed to start the 127.0.0.0 thing (if i start it now it will just say connection failed) this is very confusing  Huh? any help is appreciated thanks. Smiley

also i don't know what thing im supposed to start the 127.0.0.0 thing on if i ever get the w23_start_server going like on the client or on w23_start_client, thanks

The w32_start_server in /bin/win32 starts the server in /server  which is daimonin_server.exe.
If that is not there the server won't start. You should use the resources - collect arches in the Gridarta
editor before starting the server.

use the new client.

The mapmaker package is over a year old, obsolete except for the /editor folder and its contents.

You should get svn for linux or tortoise svn for windows. Use it to checkout the branch of daimonin which is what the game server uses.

The branch is here:
https://daimonin.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/daimonin/branches/0.9

You will need windows VisualC++ express (free download from MS) or Code::Blocks (is a free download)
to build the server.

If you get a server crash any time (which is what you got), you can look at the log file to see what happened. It is called logfile.log (surprisingly) - in the server folder, and if you don't understand what it's telling you, at least you'll have some information to post when you ask.

And yes, you need to do what Tehill says until a new mapmaker package comes out. Don't forget to update the editor as well (on the Help menu).

Well, like you told me in-game, you don't really understand what we are talking about Smiley.

You managed to download and unzip the mapmaker package, so at least you understand that much about computers!

First step is to find the folder called 'server' where you unzipped the package (it should be there with a load of other folders like 'client', 'editor', 'maps' and so on).

I have put a zipped-up version of daimonin_server.exe here for you to download and try to see if that fixes your problems - just unzip it into the 'server' folder to replace the existing daimonin_server.exe that you have.

If it works, you will see a command window, with the last line saying "Waiting for connections". You can then run your client and connect to 127.0.0.1.

If the server still doesn't work, look for a file called logfile.log in the 'server' folder. Post that here - open it in Wordpad (NOT Notepad, because the file has funny line endings and Notepad can't cope), then select everything with control/a, then control/c to copy and then control/v to paste into the reply window.
Then we can get some idea what is happening.

Doesn't matter. Just so long as all the files from arch are in server\lib.

(The reason not to copy the folders too is that they aren't needed so copying them would be a waste of space, but it won't hurt anything).

Yes - for obvious reasons we don't publish all the real in-game maps in the map editor package Smiley ... don't want people finding out all the secrets!!!

So, you should just have a small collection of maps around Guild Hall.

Useful tip:

In the /sever/data foder, find the "gmaster_file" file and open it in Wordpad, and uncomment (i.e. delete the #) on the last line.

Then, restart your server and log in to 127.0.0.1 ... you can now type /dm to go into DM mode, and so use all the DM commands.  Most useful are:

/create
/addexp
/goto

(if you type them, you'll get a bit of help so you can figure out what else you need to type)

Glad you're fixed up at last! The reason you found 'logfile' and not 'logfile.log' is because Windows Explorer is set by default not to show file extensions (the bit after the dot), although they are there really. This is supposed to make things simpler, but in most peoples' opinion (mine) it is just stupid.

If you want to, you can change Windows Explorer's settings to show the full file name.  Go toTools/Folder Options/View tab -> Advanced Settings and uncheck the box that says 'Hide extensions for known file types'.

This is on Vista. If you're still running XP, it may be in a different place ... anyone?
