Interesting ... thought I'd try my hand at some mesh-reuse ...
Stone Gargoyle
The body uses the same mesh as my Lizardman (minus the tail, horns and backbone ridge), and the wings are obviously from the Manticore. I was also able to reuse most of the lizardman armature ...
Surface texture is not UV mapped at this stage - I just added a basic material texture (its a bit rough, but might actually do anyway - apart from the stange purple hilights).

Excellent
.
I would suggest to thicken the legs a littlr, and also thicken the part where the wings connect to the shoulders. And then increase his overall size by a about 50% (or more), he looks relatively small/thin for a stone gargoyle (makes him look brittle).
Edit: Actually, we could do with a small version and a large version.
Cheers,
Anich

Good spot Anich - of course he's way too small! I was really tired last night when I put him together (I forgot to add that, with the reuse of previous mesh elements, I only spent about an hour on him to get him to that point - which is pretty fast compared to my normal timescales
).
Anyway - he turned out that big to stop his wings getting chopped off (I think he should stay as a 1x1 mob). I've now scaled him up by about 50% and his height (head to toe) now matches human male almost exactly. I've posed his wings to get them to fit in ... but unfortunately I won't be able to spread them at all when he's running / fighting or they will get chopped off.
The alternative is to make him a 2x2 mob - I'll have plenty of room to do what I like with the wings then, although there will be a lot of empty 'space' around him - and when fighting him, it will look like players can't get that close to him ...
comments please
?
I thickened up the arms, legs, waist and wing-roots.
Next step - he needs more work on the texturing ... so I think I'll have to spend the time UV map him.

wow That looks really devilish
I really like it (the second version a more)
I think a red colored version of the gargoyle should be placed somewhere in the game under name "Michtoen"... or am I the only one thinking that Daimonin is short of easter eggs?

lol, anch, exactly what i thought: red one would defenitly look like MT's avatar.
Great work again, Torch, and I think the idea of a small and a big one would fit nicely

how about spreading the gargoyles wings only when flying... and when running to keep the wings like that.. dont know how it would look to have him bounce like that...
it probably would look weird when you fought him.. and there would be a big space between the player and the mob....

Well ... RL stepped up a notch in my outside-work responsibilities, so spare time is even more at a premium! (plus its summer and too nice to be spending hours in front of the PC!)
Also, to be honest, I'm doing all these graphics and until MT releases his new code, none of them can ever make it into the game ... which is a bit disheartening. Once the test server is updated so I can add them all in, then I'll be encouraged to come back and do some more work. I really ought to finish off those gargoyles one day soon though ...
Hehe ... I just did a rough count up - I have over 2,200 images ready to be added to the .arch collection file!

i've been away for a while and i see you've been busy here, torchwood
all that work is absolutely fabulous. im not going to point what i like best, all look cool.
however, as far as implementing new race or just a new arch to main server would be some work, simply replacing existing arch images would be a matter of minutes. i have in mind your skeleton (sword one, not axe guy
he has quite big shoes for a skeleton, hehe). would be valuable replacement for our current mummy-like skelly that is on main server now. no offence for original maker of it, it still could do as mummy or golem.
btw, did you put these skeletons already here? i didn't browse all the way to thread start yet...

lol LG - I've been away too! My last graphic post was back in June! Anyway, I'm trying to kick start myself back into action again, but I've forgotten how to use Blender! Anyone know any good tutorials
I don't really like those skeletons anymore, at least not as they stand right now. I need to do some work on them before they go onto the server (you can see them on the first post of this thread, on page 1).
But I won't replace the existing ones - they are really a different style, and so a different mob. The dev team had lots of discussion about this in the past concerning my first ever mob (a SH guard) and the final decision was to leave the existing and add the new, rather than replace the existing with the new. I agreed with this decision.
