Well, i've been working on some other things too
(remember that these gifs are meant to be viewed on a white background, and that i do have the true-color versions that can be viewed on any background. Also note that these are going way faster than normal
)
This is designed to be put over a crystal as a mask, which makes it look like there's some glowyness going on inside (there are many versions of this):
Here is an animated version of our common amulet:
And here are more amulets/rings that are now animated...:
And some new herbs as well:
Blood Root:

More to come.
Cheers,
Unislash

Hehe, which one?
For the crystals... well, that's just using some alpha layer so it's transparent.
For the amulets... again, alpha layer. I'm using fireworks (although gimp could do it) and simply making new layers and painting (with low opacity) the white in these new layers. It's a quick job, 5 mins or so for this effect.
For the two rings... well, *this* is complicated
. First i smeared it a bit to make it all smooth and sharper (it was originally created by lippy iirc, and he sprited it. It's very hard to make a nice gradient when placing colors by hand). Then i had to take out what he had in the jewel part (i took off the whole jewel and re-created the ring part under it). From there, i re-made the jewel without the thing in it (fire/ice) using paths (in this case, circles) that were set low opacity (low opacity=translucent). Then i re-created the things inside by hand... that's the hardest part. And lastly i messed with the shadow a bit to reflect the animation inside the jewel
. My fireworks file has quite a few layers
.
And the blood root herb... that's a lot of painting, cloning and rotating, burning, and dodging with fireworks
.
That work?
Cheers,
Unislash

Yes! In other words, the main special tool you used was "sheer artistic painting talent"! Darn ... rules me out from ever creating something similar
Good job(s).

Well, i took your advise missy and here's some "sheer artistic painting talent", as you put it torch
:
First we have a preview of the updated lightning spell:
I've actually done it in all directions, 4 frames of animation. Believe it or not... all directions pretty much have different alignments... so it was a real pain after the painting was done. But it's done now!
Next we have... well, i got bored doing the above. So i did something cooler afterwards
. I call it "Lightning Blast". Next we just need a way to target a 2X2 bunch of tiles! Lol
Updated my rune... more simple animations such as this coming:
And updated a few pieces of armor and the like (armor is the first thing listed in the items folder of /arch other than alchemy, so... that's where i've started
)
These took the least time by far.
So... that's what i've been doing in my spare time!
Cheers,
Unislash

Have you tested this ingame? Upload to mapserv/trunk/media/artists/unislash/ or something. I doubt if we can add it to the arches yet as it is 24 more images than the current one, which would be problematic ATM, but I'll modify the .arc and get it ready for the trunk server.

Yes, i've already tested it ingame. I have a working arch as well. It's aligned differently in every direction, so it's a good thing i did test it
.
I'll upload it (and the rest of my stuff?) next chance i get
Cheers,
Unislash

Smacky: I committed my lightning spell rehash. I just put it over the old lightning. It works, though; i put it in a vanilla main server arch and it works perfectly.
So, now all we need is an arch collection (which i can easily do if i need to) and the green light.
Cheers,
Unislash

Did you test it with the daiserv and daiserv + mapserv arches added too? That's where the problem, if any, will be. Also, if you're going to add to branches, you must add to trunk too (but not vice versa). Then on trunk, make sure the test server (r3286) and the HEAD server still work.

I didn't check the mapserv arches. I only checked the build for the main server because i assumed that the mapserv/trunk client was fixed already. Didn't we fix the whole image cap thing on one of the clients?
