Hello to our new website

I need help from you website artists.

We have changed now the website to Postnuke and Autoheme.
Before i come to the graphic, here some facts.

Postnuke is nicer system as phpnuke in every area.
Autothemes allows to handle different skins/themes in a easy
way. The features to assign different screen template files to
different modules and show different blocks is nice (in fact
every feature of autotheme should be part of the postnuke core
system which is quite incomplete in that part as most CMS).

Postnuke: http://www.postnuke.com/
Autotheme: http://spidean.mckenzies.net/

But back to the templete.
I got our template as free autotheme template from this site:
http://www.ars-aventuris.de/index.php

Its the "Khom" theme you can select on the bottom of that site.
You can download there the original theme with some other in the
download section there.

I changed that theme a bit and you can download it here:
http://web2.168180.vserver.de/Daimonin.zip

Well, the theme is not bad - but far away to be perfect for a site
like us - also, we should have a "unique" Daimonin theme.

So - we need a new theme!

It can be one or more theme - postnuke allows skin change for users.

If you like to help - please post here.

The site has now so a fine technical base - now lets finish this good work
with a nice graphic.

If you like to install the autotheme to do changes - its easy under linux
and possible (to install apache, php, mysql and postnuke) on windows.
Give me a note, when you has a problem. Also, there are many websites
giving tips & hints to create postnuke/autotheme themes.

If you has ideas, samples or a done theme - please post it.
You can even attach it to a mail in this board.

thx

This theme is for phpBB2 and needs reworking to pnphpBB2
It will affect forums only, but it fits nicely in current main theme.

Hopefully we will find a volounteer to convert it Smiley

WIth some more work, it could be possible to make full pn theme from it.

You can find it here. (at the bottom of list)

Also, you can check my website, where i placed this forum style to see it in work

Oh, from there that forum theme comes.

I know it from Elfenhort site.

They use another (and as far i know the ONLY other free heroic fantasy theme
for postnuke/hphnuke) them called ZogZog which you can download here.
(this site is btw a great resource for postnuke/autotheme themes.)

I would really like btw a theme which still have "black on white".
Means dark/black text on a brighter background. Its alot more
eye friendly - but harder to make.

I found it first at www.t-o-m-e.net and was using it for a bit too. Overall, it's not that eye-unfriendly, one just must get used to it.
Btw, as you can see on elfenhort site, it fits great in this autotheme (their is a bit modified though)

I have uploaded new files to '/daimonin_logo/' folder. These are:
- new 'wueste.jpg' with thansparent logo embedded,
- daimonin.png which have fully transparent effect
- abaddon.tff, free font for recreating 'DaimoniN' logo

Hopefully it will help to improve theme on this website.

Sorry to say this LordGrunt, but neither logo is really usable for us.

The png one doesn't work as expected in IE, which I wouldn't care about if it wasn't for the fact that a majority of our visitors use that bad excuse for a browser.

The embedded logo can only be used on a screen exactly 813 pixels wide. If used on a smaller screen it won't be centered on on a wider it will be repeated. This could maybe be solved with a bunch of ugly CSS and table hacks but that will probably look bad in some other browsers...

[edit]
Ok, I checked out the embedded logo on your test site and it doesn't repeat on a 1280px wide screen, which I guess is ok. The "not smaller than 813px" argument still seems to hold, though.  This site works fine on a 800px wide screen, yours doesn't.

Ok, i understand. Hopefully the font will allow someone to make out fine working logo.
Im not sure why my site's logo doesnt center on 800, probably i made mistakes in css.
But the effect with embedded logo can be achieved (not so easy way) by cutting wueste.jpg vertically and merging logo on smaller, center part. Then making 'proper' css modifications (it's not a hack, really Smiley )

Anyway, the materials are released to public, let's have a hope someone will do the work Smiley I still have lots on my hands...

No no no no no! (a drastic first post), DONT use one of those things like PHP Nuke and those stuffs, I've had bad experiences with those, and plus, they look noobish to use, plus, you feel more proud when completly coding your site =D. Well, erm I saw that web site designer thing on the front page and I decided I wanted to try out, but im getting an unsuccesfull email delicary message when I try to send an email, so Im posting my stuff here! Cheesy
I started web designing about...almost 4 years ago, im almost 15 years old.
I have experience with: Simple WebMakers (Tongue), html, some javascript, some css, php + mysql, sql, flash, and I know how to code actionscript in flash =P.
And yea.....=)

This website needs to be more...active / modern like, its too...erm, website from the 1990's like. Thats why I never downloaded diamonin until now, its because of the site, just didn't feel like it.
Yea, the way sites look have a lot of influence on the guests actions Smiley, i've learned from this.

...I also know some modeling of weapons in 3dsmax..if that helps..lol Tongue, well, bye.

This site based on postnuke - and don't looks to noobish, or? Wink

Trust me, you will not be able to code something like this site by yourself except you are
a very good php coder AND want spend your next 2 years for it. Its not that easy to make
an enviroment who put all under one control like postnuke does here (we talk about forum,
mantis, mindmeld, php wiki, gallery and some more).

This kind of site is not really possible without a CMS and postnuke is perhaps not the
best but the only one who has all the interfaces and modules we need.

I've tried a few times to build a CMS and only ever stopped because I got bored, it doesn't take that long to make something similar to this, but different in presentation. The best thing about your own CMS is you know exactly how things work, and it's easy to change.

well I did code a members system (points, rank, avatar, other stuff), news system (with comments), and forums in one day :|...I "am" prettey good at php. And I still don't like php nuke, I used to when all I could do in php was a tag board, but not any more =D. Yes, I could code a gallery portal, I could code forums, and a members enviorment, actually, thats my current project. Im working on a site with 2 portals, 1 article submission page, forums, members system, admin cpanel, moderator cpanel, and other stuff. One of my old (abbandoned) projects was a Text Based rpg, made entirely on php, javascript, and html...:|

The site isn't noobish, not at all, just...the images, the layout...mmm :|. "could" be better, lol. Try using FireWorks, its very good for webdesign Wink. I use that myself...if you want to see some of my sites under construction add me to msn: nugget@1337email.tk

Oh, postnuke != phpnuke

Even postnuke was "born" out of phpnuke, it is different.
phpnuke is really bad, postnuke is ok.

Many of the current CMS basing on phpnuke or even
postnuke too.

i think that a darker theme (black) would be good for those of us who like to have dark sites. websites ive made always had a black background and red etc lettering. just a thought

Heh, no, daimonin has already said no to this red lettering--it kills your eyes if you don't like it very much--and then it is hard to read anyways...

I don't know if you were there when we had a red background, but even that people had a problem with. So, as you can see... it is kinda hard to pick the correct theme (which is why we have this thread). Lets see... Something *readable* and not *killer* on the eyes. That means no red text or light green (and lets not even talk about yellow). SO, try to get it within those conditions.

Cheers,

dark themes are easy to do, thats the point.

Even i can setup easily a dark website.
But doing a "black on white" like this one is alot harder to do.

In fact, i think one reason people like this website is, that its not
one of this dark/black one.

I can think about a bit darker but not that much. It should still be black
letters on whatever.
