Because the website is talking to you. The same reason that at the left it says "Show new replies to your posts.".

I agree with Nobbit. Also, it's a constant source of disappointment to me that the 'About us' page doesn't talk about my specific relationship to Daimonin when I view it. That's a strange definition of us. Should be 'About them'.

Well, u are right, of course. But for me it is a question of ... can't express it in english properly, but if u started with a "talking" website, u get it: It's a question of feeling "at home", like "It's my flat ... in who's house ever". I hope, this is understandable. But of course, this is not a main issue

The norm for most other web sites is "My Account."

Especially given the illiteracy of so many people, "YOUR" might be considered by some to mean "YOU'RE ACCOUNT," which would, indeed, be quite confusing, as most people don't consider themselves to be accounts. :p

Hm. In that case wouldn't the same people read 'my account' as 'My! A count!' and become confused as to why the website was exclaiming it had just seen Dracula?

OK Smacky, I Don't get where that came from .... many people confuse YOUR (the possessive) with YOU'RE (the contraction of "YOU ARE") and use the wrong one where they mean the other. Hell, I've edited papers written by people in graduate school who confuse the two (that and "ITS" vs "IT'S" -- don't get me started on that one!!!!)

Mostly I was being silly, but also I can't see the your/you're thing as being a problem.

People make that mistake when writing. But who is going to get confused by it when reading, and of those few if any people, who is going to remain confused by it to the extent that they have difficulty working out how to use the site?

(OTOH I really don't care if it's called your account or my account -- the operative word is account.)

Not to mention that people who see "Your account" and infer "You're a count" (or something similar) aren't really going to get very far operating the web site anyway.

Bah, I still believe it should be "My Account", "My Settings", etc.

My 2nd choice would be to drop the possessive altogether and just go with "Account", "Settings", etc.

Google uses "My Account." So far as I've been able to tell, Amazon.com is the only major site to use "Your Account" and for some reason, it just tends to work with Amazon. Maybe b/c of all the issues they've had with privacy and what not ... IDK

Guess what? I just looked at the new site. It says 'My account'! Rejoice! All is right within the world once more!
